FRIGHTFUL BITES
It’s spooky season and believe it or not, there are non-cringe ways to enjoy it in town, says Joanna Taylor
If you fancy escaping the real life horror show we’re living in right now, why not pick up your pitchfork and join Satan for an evening of light-hearted fun raising hell around the city?
Ooze into the festivities at The Thin White Duke in Soho, where the bar will be hosting a 19th-century fin de siècle-inspired evening on 27, 28 and 29 October, featuring burlesque, tarot readings, Devil’s Botany Absinthe tastings and concoctions including ‘Sparkling Cyanide’.
Meanwhile, Selfridges-based restaurant Brasserie of Light is transforming into Brasserie of Fright from 28-31 October, serving the gloriously gruesome Medusa’s Spell pudding, starring white chocolate, dark chocolate sponge, pumpkin-spiced foam and raspberry sauce, as well as many creepy cocktails including the devilishly good Brew of Ecstasy, made with Whitley Neill rhubarb & ginger gin, ginger wine, chilli and agave. Plus, Dior Beauty will be on hand to offer spine-chilling makeovers.
For a light, far less spooky bite of the action, grab one of the limited-edition spiced pumpkin buns at Bun House, available until 30 October, or go the other way with a Jack The Ripper walking tour and blood-boiling cocktails with Discount Suit Company.
If you’re after something a little raunchier, on 28 October London make-up artist and all-round party princess Isamaya Ffrench is taking over Decimo in The Standard for a party titled Night Riders from Hell, where there will be boots, bull whips and blood alongside spellbinding performances, plenty of latex and a Cîroc cocktail upon arrival. Go get ’em, ghoulies.
