THE EXTREME DINING MOVIE

-

I loved The Bear and Boiling Point , all that smash, bang, wah! wah! shouty restaurant madness. Yeah, delicious stuff. But that’s your meat and two veg. You need to visit the world’s most rarefied, exclusive dining room…

Ooh, yum, 59-course tasting menus and all that… Exactamundo!

And The Menu takes that to its wackadoo limit. There are cult chefs and then there’s Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes), an über-führer legend worshipped without question by both his staff and those who can afford to eat on his private island.

How crazy are we talking here? Well, your mini mind could never in a million years dream up the dishes Fiennes serves up. And let’s just say, no spoilers, you’d certainly regret booking a table.

But is it any good, what’s the vibe? Oh, you want vibes. It’s directed by Mark Mylod, who did loads of Succession episodes, and it twists the knife in just as juicily. Anya Taylor-Joy offers a lovely soupçon of sanity, while Nicolas Hoult is pitifully adorbs with his chef fanboy inanity. But the main course is Fiennes, and he is lip-smackingly sublime.

‘The Menu’ is in cinemas from 18 Dec
