More than 400 years ago, William Shakespear­e wrote this: ‘A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.’ Perhaps only now in 2022 do we truly understand those famous words: they are about modern job titles. Actually, the level of both tragedy and comedy going into job titles puts Shakespear­e to shame. ‘Global Head of Systems Operations’. ‘Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief Officer’. None of them means anything, but they sure do reveal a lot about the person who wants them and the organisati­on that gives them.
