Lenny Henry gets the blues Bruce Dessau on the gigs, gags and gaffes from the world of comedy

- @brucedes

Having conquered the comedy scene and showed his theatrical talents, Lenny Henry turns his attention to the blues. Henry, pictured, is filming a concert at The Hospital Club in Coventnt Garden for Sky Arts next month called Blackacre Road, joined by top singers Laura Mvula, Lulu and Mica Paris.

Henry has plenty of experience in music. There was his great soulman spoof Theophiluss P Wildebeest on The Lennyny Henry Show and he also used to sing at parties in a band called Poor White Trash with a young whippersnapper named Hugh Laurie on piano.

Lee’s thoughts on Lee

Lenny Henry is not the only stand-up expanding his repertoire by bursting into song. Stewart Lee has recorded a cover of folk ballad Polly on the Shore for Shirley Inspired, an album tribute to Shirley Collins out on April 18 (shirley collinsinspired.bandcamp.com). Lee has also written the foreword to a book called Lee, Myself & I, published on May 19. Despite the title this is not an autobiography, autobio it’s about Lee Hazlewood,Hazl who wrote These

BootsBo Are Made For Walkin’.

A leg up for Latitude

Channel 4’s playful chat show The Last Leg started off as a modest sports-based series during the 2012 Paralympics but has since become a major hit. When Titter feed spoke to co-star Josh Widdicombe last year he mentioned that he and co-presenters Adam Hills and Alex Brooker would love to do a live version if only they could find the time. Well, they have. They have just been added to the Latitude bill in July (latitude festival.com). Fingers crossed for a London gig. Despite the title this is a show that clearly has legs.
