QUOTE OF THE DAY

- Mayor of London and MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip on the outcome of Greece’s referendum

Heathrow’s CEO John HollandKaye has revealed that when his airport was named as the recommended option for another runway, he received an email from none other than Patrick McLaughlin saying “great news, let’s build it”. Much to his disappointment, it was from an engineer who just happened to have a similar name to the Transport Secretary.

If Business Secretary Sajid Javid ever loses his job, he may have a sideline in stand-up. A video posted online shows him at a recent bash telling a quip about the EU regulating the number of condoms in a packet. The Swedes wanted five — one for each working day; the French, seven — one for every day of the week; and the Italians, nine — one for every weekday and two on Saturdays and Sundays. But, he said, the Brits have asked for 12. One for each month of the year.
