Skyscraper planned to rival Shard
PLANS to build a skyscraper to rival the Shard have been submitted to the City of London Corporation.
Developers are seeking permission to build a 304m (997ft) tower, just five metres smaller than the Shard near London Bridge. It would be the second tallest tower in Europe. The site, No 1 Undershaft, in Aldgate, is owned by Singaporean palm oil magnate Kuok Hong Khoon. The Aviva Tower and buildings opposite the Gherkin would be demolished to make way for the tower.
Architect Eric Parry is believed to be leading the project.
