My torture after Spanish hospital took baby

- John Dunne

A MOTHER from London whose baby was seized by a Spanish hospital nearly three weeks ago claims she is “being tortured” by restrictions on access to her daughter.

Stacie Cottle, 27, claims doctors have told her it is not possible that she is baby Anzelika’s mother. She is now waiting for DNA test results.

Ms Cottle, from Stratford, was staying at her mother’s Costa del Sol apartment when she went into labour two weeks early. She had Anzelika after 40 minutes, at about 2am. But when mother and baby arrived at A&E in Velez- Malaga for a check-up the next day, doctors reportedly said it was “impossible” the baby was hers. Dental nurse Ms Cottle has since been forced to sleep in a separate room and can breastfeed Anzelika only under supervision.

She said: “I’m desperate to be with my baby. I feel like I’m being tortured on purpose. I just want to be with her. She is a healthy baby — the worst place for her is a hospital and it is harming her.”

The family claim they have been given no paperwork explaining why Anzelika has been seized. Ms Cottle has already had examinations which proved she had given birth.

Police, courts and social services either declined to comment or could not be reached for comment.
