Cilic: Goran keeps it simple for me

-

MARIN CILIC hopes having a former Wimbledon champion in his corner will increase his chances of winning a second Grand Slam title in less than a year,

writes Giuseppe Muro.

The US Open champion is coached by Goran Ivanisevic, who won the title at SW19 in 2001 and has overseen the Croatian’s rise to world No9.

Cilic (right) credits Ivanisevic with helping him fall in love with tennis again since becoming his coach in 2013 and the ninth seed has looked impressive here.

He plays American Denis Kudla in the fourth round today and said: “I have big respect for Goran and big belief that he is bringing me the right things. It is very simple guidelines for me. Nothing is too complicated, especially at this point of our relationship. It is working really well.”

Cilic, 26, beat John Isner 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-7, 12-10 in a third-round marathon that lasted four hours and 31 minutes and was completed over two days. He is playing Kudlaa for the first time.

“He is capable of playing ng really well, especially onn grass and some faster courts,” said Cilic. “He is s definitely a player who can be dangerous.”

Kudla is enjoying his best est run at Wimbledon and said: “Confidence is through the roof. I’m riding the wave and hopefully I can push it further.”
