Michelin-starred chef Kitchin brings taste of Scotland to Harrods

- Ben Norum

SCOTTISH chef Tom Kitchin is coming down to London to launch a week-long pop-up in Harrods.

Tom Kitchin, who at 29 became the youngest ever chefproprietor to win a Michelin star, in 2007, for Edinburgh venue The Kitchin, will take over a section of the store’s fourth-floor Conservatory restaurant in November.

He said: “We are so passionate about the incredible produce we have access to in Scotland and I’m thrilled to be bringing a taste of our land and sea to the heart of London.” The menu will show- case Scottish produce through dishes such as hand-dived Orkney scallops baked in the shell and roasted loin of Scottish Borders roe deer served with seasonal root vegetables. As well as running the popup, Kitchin will be designing a range of food-to-go for the store’s food hall. This will include roe-deer parfait, cullen skink, game terrine and a smoked salmon lasagne as well as desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and whisky trifle. The chef ’s own beer, Yer Ben, which he makes with The Isle of Skye Brewing Company, will also be available.

Kitchin, who trained under Pierre Koffmann at La Tante Claire in London and has appeared on shows including MasterChef, The Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen, said that aside from the project he “has no immediate plans to open a restaurant in London”.

The pop-up will run from November 14 to 20 with one lunch sitting and two dinner sittings a day, starting at £55 per person. The food-to-go range will be available from early November until Christmas Eve, and will also include a range of Christmas food designed by Kitchin.
