Find gang who left our son fighting for life, plead parents

- Daniel O’Mahony

THE parents of a “shy and loving” business student left fighting for life after being stabbed by a gang of up to 10 teenagers in south London have begged witnesses to come forward.

Scotland Yard today released CCTV images of three men, including one walking with the aid of a crutch, who they want to speak to in connection with the “vicious, unprovoked” attack.

Jamel Boyce, 17, was stabbed multiple times in the chest and legs when he was ambushed by the gang behind Sainsbury’s in Clapham at 7.10pm on Friday. Three young men have so far been arrested but police believe up to 10 were involved in the attack.

The teenager’s parents, Pansy and Patrick Boyce, t o d ay m a d e an emotional appeal for help to catch their son’s attackers. His father said: “Jamel is a very loving son, kind and considerate, always putting others before himself ... I’m asking anyone who has any information concerning who has done this to please contact the police.”

His wife said Jamel, a student at St Francis Xavier Sixth Form College who is still in a critical condition in hospital, is a “shy, loving boy who is always smiling”. She urged anyone “who knows anything, no matter how small” to call detectives. They particularly want to speak to members of the public who gave first aid to him on the spot.

Detective Sergeant Paul Graves, of Lambeth CID, said it was “an unprovoked attack on a young student simply going about his business.”

Anyone who can help should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Two men, both 20, arrested in connection with the stabbing have been bailed. A 17-year-old arrested on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder is still in custody.
