Bubbly flows in

FORMER Labour MP and two-time Oscar-winner Glenda Jackson must be thinking about a wardrobe upgrade now that autumn gently falls upon us. The 81year-old recently modelled a fetching trench for Burberry’s latest advertising campaign, and a family member tells us A WILD evening out in London town for Frieze last night. The Londoner’s first port of call was our own elegant champagne party in the private lounge at Frieze Masters in Regent’s Park, in which Tate director Maria Balshaw wowed both with her speech — see page 17 — and also with her surprisingly natty trainers.

Also at the party was Idris Khan, upand-coming designer Luke Edward-Hall and Arts Council England chair Sir Nicholas Serota, who looked on approvingly as his successor addressed the crowd. Pop art godfather Sir Peter Blake observed from his armchair throne.

After a tour of both shows — a highlight was spotting Mary Beard holding court at her fictional Bronze Age presentation — The Londoner nipped down to 180 The Strand for Everything at Once, hosted by the Lisson Gallery and the Vinyl Factory. Guests included artists Marina Abramovic and Tracey Emin, who accidentally prodded a friend of The Londoner with a fork on her way to the food table. No harm done, Tracey. Later, a rumour spread that REM frontman Michael Stipe was in the building. Or was it Moby? The Londoner couldn’t find either of them amid the hip crowd.

Finally it was on to The Groucho in Soho, bedecked with flowers in honour of its own Frieze party, for champagne with GQ editor Dylan Jones, artist Jonathan Yeo and designer Joshua Kane. Who needs art with all these beautiful people? that she was rather hoping for a complementary coat. She’s still waiting.

The Londoner contacted Burberry to see if one would be forthcoming but the fashion brand has yet to respond. They’re probably on the phone to the courier. Or to Santa.
