London’s best

Pizzas

- Ben Norum

FRIDAY is National Pizza Day, as good a reason as any to seek out the capital’s best. Dough on, you know you want to.

San Daniele at Santa Maria

Cherry tomatoes, rocket, mozzarella and parmesan shavings are perfect partners to the hefty slices of premium Prosciutto di San Daniele at this Neapolitan pizza joint.

£11.95, 160 New Cavendish Street, W1, santamariapizzeria.com

Marinara at L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele

You know this one already. It’s the offshoot of that Naples pizzeria from Eat, Pray, Love which has been named the best in the world. The Marinara is all about the base — it’s crisp, airy and covered in rich tomato sauce.

£6.90, 125 Stoke Newington Church Street, N16, damichele.net

The Cheeky Bro at Crust Bros

The name of this pizza references the delicious strips of guanciale — cured pig cheek — that it’s adorned with. Spring onions and scamorza seal the deal. £8.95, 113 Waterloo Road, SE1, crustbros.co.uk

The Guest at Hai Cenato

This limited edition pizza from

Jason Atherton is the most decorated of its kind in London. It’s made in collaboration with three Michelinstarred Massimo Bottura and topped with Italian pork sausage cotechino, parmesan, caramelised onions and balsamic vinegar. Believe the hype. £14.50, 79 Buckingham Palace Road, SW1, haicenato.co.uk

The Pompeii at The Gold of Naples

There’s certainly something volcanic about this offering from a hidden gem in Hither Green. Its chewy base is laden with peppery Napoli salami, chilli oil and chilli flakes for a satisfying experience. £9.50, 134 Hither Green Lane, SE13, facebook.com/thegoldofnaples
