LLORIS: YOU’LL SEE THE REAL TOTTENHAM TONIGHT

CAPTAIN’S BATTLE CRY AHEAD OF EUROPEAN SHOWDOWN

- Giuseppe Muro

HUGO LLORIS believes Tottenham will show they belong among the elite clubs in Europe when they play Juventus at Wembley tonight.

Spurs face the Italians in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie looking to clinch a place in the quarter-finals for only the second time in their history.

Tottenham have the advantage after a 2-2 draw in Turin in the first leg and Lloris has urged his teammates to grasp their opportunity.

The Spurs skipper (right) said: “Juventus have played in two of the last three finals in this competition, so it is a great moment to show the real face of Tottenham.

“This is the highest level we can play in football. We deserve to be here and are in a good shape but we need to show it every time we have the opportunity. When you have the chance to play in a competition like this and to go as far as possible, you need to take it because you never know what will happen in the next few years.”

Spurs were written off when they were drawn against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in the group stage but, after beating both sides, Mauricio Pochettino feels his side have earned the respect of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The Argentine has transformed Spurs since taking charge in 2014 and they would have to be considered as contenders to win the Champions League if they knock out Juventus.

Lloris said: “Our main target is to reduce the gap to the best club in Europe and, step by step, we are trying to make something strong within this club.”
