AC T R E S S L i ly Ja me s h a s fuelled rumours she plans to settle down with boyfriend Matt Smith, saying: “It’s something I’m looking forward to.”

The Darkest Hour star, who has been dating the former Time Lord since 2014, said several of the couple’s friends were becoming parents and it was “amazing to see what that brings to your life”.

In an interview with Net-A-Porter’s digital magazine Porter Edit, she said: “Two of my closest girlfriends just had babies and I adore them. It becomes the most important thing, and that kind of shift is something I look forward to.”

Last month Smith, 35, said that he wanted “lots of children” during an appearance on Desert Island Discs. The Crown star told Kirsty Young t h e “f a n t a s i s e d ve rs i o n” of his life included “a big family and loads of dogs”, adding: “I think I’d be quite a good dad.”

James, 29, raised speculation about the couple’s future when she wore a ring on her engage- ment finger to the Bafta awards in February. But she told the magazine: “I’m just not very superstitious about rings. I put rings on any finger. Also, that was a f***-off ring. I mean, Jesus. [It’s] worth £1 million.”

The actress, from Esher, Surrey, stars in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, out in July, as a younger version of Meryl Streep’s character Donna from the 2008 film. She said the pressure of stepping into Streep’s shoes was “terrifying”.

The star, who can be seen in cinemas in The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society from next Friday, also revealed: “I would like to play a musician. Janis Joplin... There are some Dusty Springfield conversations going around. I like to transform into a character.”
