Cole dreams about returning home as a Chelsea coach

JOE COLE has revealed he wants to return to Chelsea in the future and become part of the club’s coaching set-up.

Cole, who plays for United Soccer League side Tampa Bay Rowdies, had a successful spell at the Blues between 2003 and 2010.

The 36-year-old is close to completing his Uefa A licence and is already hoping to get some kind of role at Chelsea after he retires.

Cole said: “One day I would like to be part of the coaching staff, in what capacity I don’t know. But when you’re part of a club like this, you don’t want to let it go. Hopefully, it will be a lifetime relationship.”

Cole has led sessions with Chelsea’s youngsters on more than one occasion at the club’s training ground to help acquire his coaching badges.

He has also been allowed to work on his fitness there in between seasons in the USA, which ended last October and resumed again last month.

The former England international has urged Chelsea to come back strong from a disappointing title defence and challenge Manchester City for the League next term.

Chelsea go into the match at Southampton tomorrow trailing Pep Guardiola’s side by 27 points, although they can still win the FA Cup. Cole said: “You have to say that Manchester City have had a great season, but you come back and go get them next year. I think Chelsea can still win a trophy this year.”
