Bayern join chase to snap up Arsenal reject Ramsey

- James Olley

BAYERN MUNICH are attempting to beat Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The 27-year-old is set to move after the Gunners withdrew a contract offer that had been left unsigned for months.

Ramsey’s existing agreement expires at the end of the season and Arsenal’s stance has sparked a scramble for his signature, with AC Milan and Juventus among several clubs to have expressed an interest.

United and Liverpool are weighing up January offers if the Gunners indicate they are willing to sell to a domestic rival, chiefly on the basis they would receive a transfer fee. From January 1, Ramsey is able to negotiate directly with overseas clubs over a free transfer, which would be completed next summer.

Bayern are hopeful of securing a deal, having been attracted by a player of top international quality in what are, theoretically, the peak years of his career and potentially being available for nothing.

Ramsey and his family are said to be settled in London, but the Welshman refused to rule out a move overseas when speaking to Standard Sport after Arsenal’s Europa League clash in Sporting Lisbon last month.
