Wallace attempts to rip up the Moliwood script

- Matt Majendie

THE build up in the Race to Dubai may have all been about Moliwood but London’s Matt Wallace was today doing his utmost to spoil the script.

Wallace carded four birdies on the front nine on day two of the DP World Tour Championship to move to eight-under par and into a four-way share for the lead.

Among the leaders was one half of Moliwood, Tommy Fleetwood, who has yet to drop a single shot in Dubai in 33 holes to keep alive his hopes of bagging the £1million bonus for winning the Race to Dubai.

But Fleetwood, who had hit five birdies after 15 holes, knows he needs to win to have any chance of catching Francesco Molinari in the standings. The Italian was still comfortably in contention as he moved to six-under at the 10th hole.

Sharing the lead with Wallace and Fleetwood were Spaniard Adrian Otaegui and American Patrick Reed, who has recaptured his best form since the Ryder Cup fall-out from his post-match comments.

With four holes remaining of his second round in Dubai, Reed was devoid of the occasional slip-ups of day one after hitting four straight birdies.

Eddie Pepperell was forced to pull out of the tournament on day two with a recurrence of a back problem, while Danny Willett, who has endured his own injury problems since winning the Masters, was a shot off the lead.
