IVANKA TRUMP used a personal email account to discuss official White House business, according to a report today.

US president Donald Trump’s eldest daughter allegedly sent hundreds of emails to White House aides, cabinet officials and her assistants using a private account she shared with her husband, Jared Kushner. When quizzed about the emails, according to the Washington Post, she claimed she was not familiar with all the rules.

In the 2016 presidential campaign, Mr Trump called his Democrat opponent Hillary Clinton “crooked” and said she should be jailed for sending private emails while US secretary of state.

Using personal email for government business could breach the Presidential Records Act and increases the risk of sensitive information being hacked.

Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Ms Trump’s lawyer, said that although she had used her email account in the early days of her job as an adviser to her father, none of the messages contained classified details. “While transitioning into government, after she was given an offi- cial account but until the White House provided her the same guidance they had given others who started before she did, Ms Trump sometimes used her personal account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family,” he added.

White House ethics officials uncovered Ms Trump’s use of her personal account while reviewing emails sent to cabinet officials as part of a public records lawsuit.

Austin Evans, executive director of American Oversight, the watchdog group that triggered the email review, questioned Ms Trump’s claim that she did not know the rules when “her father ran on the misuse of personal email as a central tenet of his campaign”.

An FBI investigation branded Mrs Clinton reckless in her use of the emails but did not result in any charges.

⬤ A San Francisco district judge today temporarily banned the Trump administration from refusing asylum to people who cross the southern border into the US illegally. The president made an order this month denying asylum to most border-crossers, as a response to migrant caravans in Mexico. STRANGER Things star Millie Bobby Brown was today named as Unicef’s youngest goodwill ambassador. The British actress, 14, follows in the footsteps of stars including David Beckham and Orlando Bloom. Describing the role as a “huge honour” and a “dream come true”, she said: “I am looking forward to meeting as many children and young people as I can, hearing their stories, and speaking out on their behalf.” Her appointment was formally announced at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to coincide with World Children’s Day.
