MET WARNS NOT TO HIDE GUNS AS AMNESTY IS LAUNCHED
SCOTLAND Yard today warned relatives not to hide guns for loved ones as they launched a firearms amnesty.
They said those caught in possession of a gun would face at least five years in jail and that anyone with a weapon should hand it in.
Ahead of a twoweek national gun amnesty, the Met today launched a video showing the consequences of carrying a gun.
Det Chief Supt
Craig Turner said: “Too often we come across family being asked to conceal firearms. If you’re caught in possession of a gun you will be jailed for a minimum of five years — regardless of who obtained the weapon.”
From tomorrow, the public can hand in guns or ammunition to police anonymously and will not face prosecution.
