Watson, who studied at US Ivy League university Brown, and Worcester College Oxford, visited Lady Margaret Hall in May this year. LMH has form for highprofil­e Fellows: its last cohort also included the actor Benedict Cumberbatc­h and Beeban Kidron, the director of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. The college’s alumni includes Nigella Lawson and Michael Gove. Malala Yousafzai is currently studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics there.

“We welcome all our new Visiting Fellows and Emma Watson, who has now been appointed an Associate Fellow,” Rusbridger said yesterday. “We look forward to them contributi­ng to the life of LMH and to debate, perform, challenge and otherwise engage with the fellows, tutors, staff and students. We can learn much from them and we hope they treasure their time with us.”
