Alli: We must use heartache of Madrid to drive us to glory

injuries I’ve ever had in one season. I’ve got to use it all to go forward.

“Every time I got injured, I was trying to come back as strong as I could, have a break and use the time to work on the things that weren’t quite right, keep building and come back stronger. I feel like I’ve done that. I’ve got to keep working on those things throughout ughout the season. I feel like I used the time well.

“It’s tough, not just physically but mentally as well. I had to dig deep. It’s not nice to be on the sidelines, sitting in the treatment room and d watching the lads train. You ou want to be out there helpingg your team. I was disappointed to get the injuries. I’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Meanwhile, Heung-Min Son (above) says he is confident of reaching even greater heights after finally having some time off over the summer.

Son won a clean sweep of the club’s supporter player-of-the-season awards last term after a gruelling campaign in which he competed in the World Cup, Asian Games and Asian Cup for South Korea and helped Spurs to the Champions League Final.

“It felt great to be back with my teammates,” Son said. “It’s been a great summer. I don’t normally have any time to rest, but I rested well. I had a small operation to take the plate out of my arm [followingfo a fracture in 2017], so it was good to relax and build for the season. Last season was totough, but I was so happy to play a lot without injury and play well. I think this season wi l l b e b e t te r. I am more reready than last season and I wanwant to be better.”

Spurs remain locked in talks with Fulham for Ryan Sessegnon and Real Betis over Giovani Lo Celso but they are continuing to wait for a breakthrough with both clubs. They are still some way off Betis’s £67million asking price for the Argentina playmaker but there is optimism that an agreement will eventually be reached with Fulham for teenager Sessegnon.
