Government’s disregard of law is very dangerous

-

ALREADY this government has shown a worrying tendency to disregard the law, and there is now talk of breaking the legal restrictions placed on no-deal by Parliament.

The idea that the Government is above the law runs contrary to the democracy upon which this country is built. Not for nothing is Westminster known as the Mother of Parliaments. Dictators across the world will be watching with interest.

In 2015 we celebrated the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, when barons stood up to King John and established that no king (or government) was above the law. The last king that tried to challenge this, Charles I, was executed! Seeking to destroy our freedoms is dangerous.

And for what? The pretext that Brexit is about asserting sovereignty is a cover for currency speculators and those seeking to protect offshore riches. These parasites would damage the rights of ordinary people all so they can add to their wealth.

However, they need to be aware that wealth is only guaranteed by the rule of law. Governments which feel above the law get greedy.

Andrew Milroy change the letter to match the spirit. The idea the EU can be persuaded not to grant us an extension when asked is fanciful.

And attempts to persuade a country such as Hungary to veto the extension will be an embarrassing failure — why on earth would they stand in front of the Brussels-Berlin juggernaut to save Boris?

Ignore the fiction: the fact is that either the PM gets a deal or we’ll still be in the EU next month.
