Backstage together: Brad and Jennifer share the moment after award wins
BRAD PITT and Jennifer Aniston had an emotional reunion backstage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The former Hollywood power couple, who were married between 2000 and 2005, were photographed shortly after Pitt, 56, received the best supporting actor gong for Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood, and Aniston, 50, won outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series for The Morning Show.
Footage also showed Pitt attentively watching Aniston on a television screen as she collected her prize.
The pair have been on friendly terms for several years, and were spotted chatting at the Golden Globes after-party this month, with Pitt attending Aniston’s Christmas party in December. Aniston has quelled any speculation that the couple could get back together, telling Entertainment Tonight: “It’s hysterical.”
When accepting his award last night Pitt joked about his two-year marriage to Angelina Jolie, with whom he shares six children. They split in 2016 after meeting on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith a decade earlier.
Talking about his character in the Tarantino film, Pitt said: “It was a difficult part, a guy who takes his shirt off, gets high and doesn’t get on with his wife. It was a big stretch, big.”
He also said he would have to add his SAG win to “my Tinder profile”.
During her speech, Aniston said: “What? Oh my gosh, this is so unbelievable, what a room.”
Other big winners at the ceremony in Los Angeles included Joaquin Phoenix and Renée Zellweger who took home the best actor prizes. Phoenix won for Joker; Zellweger for playing Judy Garland in Judy.
Parasite, a dark comedy from South Korea, won outstanding performance by a cast, beating heavyweights including The Irishman and Bombshell, which stars Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie and Nicole Kidman.
Laura Dern collected best supporting female actor for Marriage Story and The Irishman’s Robert De Niro was honoured with a lifetime achievement award. Phoebe WallerBridge won again for outstanding female actor in a comedy series for the second series of Fleabag.
The Crown won the prize for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series. The SAGs are voted for by actors and is one of the last major ceremonies before the Academy Awards on February 10.
