FA to choose from Ellis and Wiegman

- Simon Collings

THE FA are closing in on a successor to England Women’s manager Phil Neville, with Jill Ellis and Sarina Wiegman the final two candidates.

Ellis won the Women’s World Cup with the United States in 2015 and 2019, while Holland boss Wiegman led her side to victory at the 2017 Women’s Euros.

Both come with strong pedigrees, but Ellis could prove to be an attractive option, as she is a free agent after stepping down with the United States last year.

It was confirmed in April that Neville, who led the Lionesses to a first SheBelieves Cup success and fourth place at the World Cup, is leaving the job in July 2021.
