The new wave of Scandi buzz brands you need to know now
COPEN HA GEN Fashion Week is always the font of fun, fresh, agenda-setting fashion both on and off the runways, and this week’s event — which took on both a physical and digital format — was no exception.
A riot of colour, delicious dresses and great tailoring, the city has once again reasserted itself as the capital of cool. But what to shop when you’ve got your Ganni and are bored of Cecilie Bahnsen (if that’s possible?) Here are six lesser-known gems.
1.Skall Studio
Who: Sustainable label established in 2014 by sisters Julie and Marie Skall.
What: Avegan, eco-conscious wardrobe of pared-back classics in a muted colours, constructed from leftover fabrics and good-quality natural materials.
Key style: The upcycled cotton Jackie midi dress
Fans: Effortlessly cool ’grammers Blanca Miro and Monica Ainley.

2. Mark Kenly Domino Tan
Who: Copenhagen resident Mark Kenly Domino Tan launched his eponymous brand in 2014 following stints designing for Dior, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen.
What: Known for his structural tailoring and innovative use of fine textiles, Tan has an eye for femininity, craftsmanship and tradition.
Key style: SS21’s asymmetrical white tailoring and linen waistcoats.
Fans: Aged 12, he designed a dress for
Princess Alexandra of Denmark, and today dresses Crown Princess Mary. Price: £200-£900

3.Nynne
Who: Copenhagen-born Nynne Kunde cut her teeth at fashion-girl favourite Rejina Pyo while studying at the Istituto Marangoni in London before launching her label on graduating in 2018.
What: Combining clean Scandi minimalism with London eccentricity and a delicious Pyo-esque palette of pastels and rust, Nynne designs practical yet elegant clothes.
Key style: Gathered-front blouses and maxi dresses.
Fans: Ellie Goulding.

4.Brøgger
Who: London-based Danish designer Julie Brøgger ran teams at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Erdem and JW Anderson before establishing her label in 2017.
What: Rejecting the notion that Scandi style needs to mean minimalism, Brøgger goes big on brightly coloured suiting and super-feminine yet wearable dresses in popping prints.
Key style: The double-breasted, power-shouldered tailoring for SS21.
Fans: Cate Blanchett, Clara Amfo and Cardi B.

5. Saks Potts
Who: A Copenhagen-based outerwear label launched by Cathrine Saks and Barbara Potts in 2014.
What: Born out of a belief that a coat is the most important item in a woman’s wardrobe, their trenches are turbocharged with sass.
Key style: Coloured, fur-trimmed leather belted coats.
Fans: Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Gigi Hadid.

6.Remain
Who: Founded last year, Remain is the second fashion brand to come from Danish influencer-cum-design duo Thora Valdimars and Jeanette Madsen, who launched their dress-centric partywear label Rotate back in 2018.
What: Positioned as an “accessible contemporary everyday uniform”, with a focus on wellcut tailoring in interesting fabrics.
Key style: A leather trench from the SS21 collection of seven limited edition pieces made from upcycled stock.
Fans: Daisy Ridley, Caroline de Maigret and Olivia Culpo.
