Our unborn child needs justice, says pregnant partner of murder victim

- Barney Davis

THE pregnant girlfriend of London’s latest murder victim today said their unborn daughter needs justice after “the love of her life” was stabbed to death in Tottenham.

Witnesses said Tyreke Watson, 21, was chased by his attacker after being ambushed as he came out of a shop on West Green Road at 4pm on Monday.

The keen footballer was given emergency treatment by paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

His partner Oneica Williams, 23, revealed she is expecting their daughter in May and they were still deciding on a name for her when he was killed.

She told the Standard: “Tyreke was an amazing partner and did his best to make me happy. He was so excited about being a father. Not only do his family and I need justice, but so does our unborn child.”

Student Anas Mezenner, 17, was fatally stabbed on January 19 on the same street. Scotland Yard there were no immediate links with Mr Watson’s death and that of Anas.

DCI Linda Bradley, the officer leading the investigation, said: “Tyreke’s family have been left completely devastated by his death and I would urge anyone who witnessed the attack or who has any other information about this case to contact police.”

A witness described seeing Mr Watson being chased before he was stabbed after being ambushed as he came out of a Cash Converters shop.

He said the victim’s mother arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and begged police to be allowed by his side.

The witness said: “The guy came out of Cash Converters and a tiny lad, really short, started chasing him.

“They were running around a car then the little guy, probably a teenager, must have stabbed the older guy.

“He staggered across the street to a doorway to a building where he lived and collapsed.”

He added: “I have seen the victim around. He was a nice enough lad. He had only moved here recently.

“The victim’s mother turned up soon after. She wanted to see her son, but the paramedics were stopping her so they could treat him. She was hysterical.”

The incident happened on the corner of West Green Road and St Margaret’s Avenue. Another witness, Leroy Reed, said: “There was screaming and shouting and then the lad was laying there on the ground. It’s a tragedy.”

DCS Treena Fleming, local police commander for Haringey, said: “I am deeply saddened by the death of another young man as the result of a senseless stabbing.

“My thoughts and sympathies lie with the family and loved ones of the young man at this very difficult and traumatic time.”
