My normal childhood with the odd celeb thrown in, by Maid star Margaret

- Lizzie Edmonds

MARGARET QUALLEY claims she had a normal childhood despite being brought up regularly rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars as the daughter of Four Weddings And A Funeral star Andie MacDowell.

The dancer and actor, 28, best-known for starring in gritty Netflix drama Maid, told ES Magazine she had a “normal” upbringing in Asheville, North Carolina. But she admitted it was sometimes strange to accompany her mother on set and meet some of the biggest stars of the film world. Her father is the actor Paul Qualley.

On growing up with famous parents, the star of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood said: “It was a strange thing but then I did go to a normal school, had normal friends, and have a somewhat normal life. Then my mom would go off and do movies and I’d go with her and sometimes I’d meet, like, Gérard Depardieu.”

lywood, with Sanctuary, a two-hander about a dominatrix and her employer, to be released this summer.

Also set for a British release this year is Claire Denis’s film Stars At Noon which co-stars Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Qualley has admitted that she had an ulterior motive for signing up for the project, which was shot in Panama where her father — whom she hadn’t seen for three years due to the pandemic — was living. “He came to the set with me every day,” she said. “I was playing somewhat of a prostitute, so he wasn’t watching, but he was there. I think the greatest gift that a parent can give to their kid is just paying attention to them, just caring and watching. My dad’s awesome at that.”

Qualley also spoke about her relationship with music producer Jack Antonoff, who has worked with Swift, Lana Del Ray and Lorde. The couple, who have been together for about two years, are engaged.

She said: “I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I met him when I was 26 and I’m so grateful I got him at that age because I get to spend the rest of my life with him.”
