‘Unstoppable’ City slickers earn Grealish dream final

- Simon Collings

JACK GREALISH says Manchester City feel “unstoppable”, after Pep Guardiola told his players they can start dreaming of the Treble.

City hammered Real Madrid last night at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final to complete a 5-1 aggregate victory over the reigning champions.

Bernardo Silva scored twice and Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez also struck, as Guardiola’s side won 4-0 to set up a final against Inter Milan.

Guardiola had so far been reluctant to discuss the prospect of completing a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League Treble, which has been achieved only by Manchester United in 1999. But after last night, the City boss said: “Now the players can visualise it. It’s normal, we are three games away. We are close and we are going to try.”

City could claim the Premier League title this weekend and, after that, they face Manchester United in the FA Cup Final on

June 3, before taking on Inter in Istanbul the following week.

City have never won the Champions League and it is the one trophy that has eluded Guardiola during his time there, but Grealish believes the side are playing better than ever now.

“I don’t think a lot of teams will do that to Real Madrid,” said Grealish. “I swear, when we’re all together and playing, especially here, we feel unstoppable. Even in the League, we feel like nobody can beat us [here]. It’s a dream come true [to make the Champions League final]. I’m buzzing.”

City were knocked out of the Champions League at this stage last season, beaten by last night’s opponents.

“I had a feeling we had one year of pain in our stomach with what happened last season,” said Guardiola. “It was so painful. [Tonight], we showed how special this group are.”
