I’M HUNGRY TO WIN ALL I CAN, SAYS JORGINHO

MIDFIELDER OUTLINES PLAN AS HE AGREES CONTRACT EXTENSION AND ADMITS HE HAS UNFINISHED BUSINESS

- Simon Collings

JORGINHO today said he is hungry to “win as much as I can” with Arsenal after signing a contract extension at Emirates Stadium.

The 32-year-old’s deal was due to expire this summer and he has been attracting interest from clubs in Italy.

But Mikel Arteta has made it clear Jorginho is an integral part of his plans, and the midfielder has ended uncertainty over his future by signing what is said to be a “short-term deal”.

Jorginho has established himself as a key player in the Arsenal squad since his £12million move from Chelsea in January 2023.

He has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season and has set his sights on adding to his trophy haul, having won the Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup with Chelsea, as well as Euro 2020 with Italy.

Arsenal are vying with Manchester City for the Premier League title and Jorginho feels he has unfinished business in north London.

Asked about his hopes for his future with Arsenal, Jorginho said: “Win as much as I can, enjoy the moment, because that’s really important for me.

“Because if you are somewhere where you are not enjoying it, or you are not happy, then it’s difficult. So, moving forward is trying to be here, happy and achieving as much as we can.

“I’m really happy to stay, because it’s a privilege to be a part of this family. My family is happy, we’re really well settled and I feel that I have more to do.

“I felt part of something big straight away. The way I felt involved and how I felt really in a good place. It’s not always like that, so when you feel something like this, it’s something important.”

On the season so far, Jorginho said: “I’d say that we are enjoying it, because it’s a beautiful journey. It’s a special moment, a special thing we’ve been doing, and I think that we need to push and enjoy the moment every single day.

“To be where we are, we worked hard. We did so much and we need to be proud of what we’ve been doing. We need to trust what we’re doing and believe it.”

Arteta expressed his delight at the deal. He said: “Jorgi is such an important part of our team, a role model with great leadership skills and a unique playing-style ability which makes everybody better around him on the pitch.

“We’re very pleased that Jorgi and his family have committed with us and we’re all excited to continue this journey together.”

Arsenal sporting director Edu said: “Jorgi represents what we stand for here at Arsenal with his professionalism and success.

“Everyone at the club will be very excited that Jorgi will continue with us, not only the players and coaches, but all the staff behind the scenes as well.

“It’s great that Jorginho remains with us, as we continue building to be better and stronger.”

I’m really happy to stay because it’s a privilege to be part of this family — and I feel that I have more to do
