Dramatic end to Barnhill’s triples final

The Barnhill Bowling Club Open Mixed Triples final was closely contested and ended 8-8.

The Barnhill rink of Henry Chapman, Sandra C hapman and Jack Smillie triumphed over the Barnhill rink of Stuart Buist, Fiona Christie and Gary Grant on a most ends won basis. The losing semi-finalists were Graham Rennie and Alistair Johnston.

The winners of the Consolatio­n tournament, run in conjunctio­n with main tournament, were Monifieth trio John Finlayson, Alison Turnbull and Wendy Kydd, who beat Letham’s Jim Torrie, Kenny Gall and Pat Black 19-8. ANGUS TOP FIVE The first round of the Angus Top Five Singles threw up surprise results and some very tight matches.

Harry Grieve will be looking to repeat his Carnoustie success of last year but Forfar’s Anne Gray will be unable to defend her crown as she will be at the national finals in Ayr.

Ailsa Robertson and Mark Thompson, of Dudhope, will also be looking to retain their pairs title.
