a Sunday. You can see their performances improve week on week.

“They are devastated that we haven’t won — there has been a bottle of champagne sitting in the dressing-room waiting for the first win. They deserve that victory.

“It’s not about setting targets to win or get so far up the table but starting small. For example, we set targets of getting into the opponents half 20 times in a game or into their box four times and we have improved. actuallytll bbeen a successfulf l season!! AAndd we won’t finish bottom.”

The squad have shown incredible spirit to continually turn up for games knowing another double-figure beating could be on the cards but goalkeeper Vicky Ogilvie is bullish in her belief that Fairfield can have a successful season next year.

She said: “We weren’t expecting much in our first season but performances have been night and day from the start to now. We have a good nucleus and we all want to win for each other.

“Whether we win or lose, we do it as a team and a lot of the positivity comes from our manager who always encourages and gives us positive feedback.

“It’s easy to keep our heads up because there are always others in the team who keep us going, who tell us to keep positive. I believe 100% the win will come.”

West added: “Our aim was to complete the season and set ourselves up for next. The team came from nowhere and the aim has just been to enjoy playing, get fitter, make some friends and just get involved in the sport.

“We’re looking forward to next season and we have a few new players coming in. We’re looking to pick up points and I think we can finish mid-table.”

One thing for certain is that the club’s second season surely cannot read any worse than their first.
