Restaurant set to bring 45 new jobs
A NEW restaurant venture is set to bring 45 jobs to Dundee.
The G1 Group — which manages more than 55 venues including bars, hotels, cinemas and a casino — is already well under way in transforming a former butcher’s at Brook Street in the heart of Broughty Ferry into Forgan’s Bar and Restaurant.
Today, the creation of the jobs was described as a welcome boost for the area.
Aylin Sulo, who will be responsible for overseeing the restaurant, said: “We are beyond delighted to continue the story of Forgan’s Broughty Ferry.
“This isn’t a case of “mass expansion” but a careful and considerate decision to bring something truly special to in somewhere we really feel is a natural fit for the brand.”
The new restaurant will offer the same private bothies as its sister venue in St Andrews.
The site was previously occupied by the award-winning Robertson butcher business, which closed its doors in September 2014.
Aylin added: “We are thrilled to be continuing recruitment with an emphasis on hiring locals and we are still currently recruiting for almost all positions.”
Broughty Ferry Community Councillor Neil Cooney said he was delighted with the news.
He said: “I think it is a positive step for the area.
“It’s creating new jobs and hopefully these positions will be snapped up. It’s great so see a prominent site on Brook Street being filled and it’s important to recognise what is filling it.
“Forgan’s Bar & Restaurant is well established in St Andrews and it’s very much community minded.
“G1 oversees a number of venues and it’s great the firm sees Broughty Ferry as a good opportunity.”
Broughty Ferry Councillor Derek Scott also welcomed the company’s announcement. He said: “I’m always pleased to see more investment in Broughty Ferry and with the announcement of new vacancies it increases the security of jobs in the area.”
In June, the Tele launched its Let’s Get Dundee Working campaign, which aims to help get as many local people in the city as possible into work.
