Defender Kosta picks up injury

-

DUNDEE defender Kosta Gadzhalov has picked up a slight knock, forcing him out of pre-season training.

However, the problem is not thought to be serious.

And t he Bulgarian i s expected to take part in the double fitness sessions scheduled for tomorrow.

Gadzhalov has impressed in the heart of defence so far this pre-season, dovetailing perfectly in a three alongside Darren O’Dea in the centre and Julen Etxabeguren on the right.

This summer is set to be a big one for the 26-year-old, who has been nothing more than a bit-part player for the club since his arrival two years ago.

Despite making noises to the contrary, and the unpopularity of the system among the punters after some ropey performances last season, Paul Hartley is again toying with the idea of starting the 2016/17 campaign playing three at the back.

And it’s understood Paul sees Gadzhalov as a big part of that, given his mobility and the fact he is more than comfortable with the ball at his feet.

Gadzhalov is the only player of the 22 in Obertraun to miss a session since going over, barring, of course, those carrying injuries prior to arrival.

James McPake’s duties have mainly been restricted to coaching and helping the manager on the sidelines, while Paul McGowan and Nicky Low, who have done some work with the full squad, have been working primarily with the club physio as they recover from long-term shoulder and foot problems respectively.

Kane Hemmings and James Vincent, who are yet to kick a ball in pre-season this summer, have both been working with the main body of players.

Both are expected to be back in the running when the League Cup campaign kicks off on Saturday week.
