THE wife of the Dundee council worker who was seriously injured after becoming engulfed in a ball of flames told the Tele today that her husband was slowly recovering.

Jennifer Peacock said Bryan, 54, remained in Ninewells Hospital but was on the mend.

Mr Peacock had been working at an address in Earn Crescent in Menzieshill on September 20 when he was engulfed in a ball of flames after receiving an electric shock.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and Mr Peacock was taken to Ninewells.

“He is recovering in hospital and hopefully it won’t be too long before he gets home,” said Mrs Peacock at the couple’s Charleston home.

“He sustained burns to his hands and chest but he is improving all the time.

“He has not required skin grafts and I’m hopeful he might get home fairly soon.”

She said she didn’t know when her husband would be able to return to work.

“We are very grateful to all the well wishers who have been in touch with us,” she added.

“We were obviously very concerned to begin with but things are looking a lot better now.”

At the ti me of the i ncident, Mr Peacock had been attempting to fix a metal railing to the wall of a block of flats to secure the wheelchair of Ben Dryden that had recently been stolen twice from outside his home.

Ben’s mum, Aileen, was the first on the scene after Mr Peacock hit a live cable while he was drilling a hole.

Aileen told the Tele she heard a huge bang and opened her front door to the horrific sight of Mr Peacock in the closie running about on fire.

“I screamed in shock and told him to hang on while I got help. His clothes were on fire and he was screaming in agony,” she said.

Mr Peacock managed to get outside where he rolled on the ground in a bid to extinguish the flames.
