Toshney boost for McKinnon
THERE was good news for Dundee United on the injury front this morning when Ray McKinnon confirmed Lewis Toshney will be fit to face Hibs at Easter Road on Sunday.
The versatile defender jarred his knee after landing awkwardly in a challenge in the first half against Morton last Saturday but was able to finish the 90 minutes.
However, the manager has revealed there was no lasting damage and Toshney will be available for the trip to Leith.
“Tosher tweaked his knee last Saturday against Morton but he is OK and available for Sunday’s game,” said Ray
Toshney’s availability will be a welcome boost for the gaffer as there are still doubts whether midfielders Willo Flood, Charlie Telfer and Stewart Murdoch will be fit in time to play.
Toshney played a key part in the victory over Morton last weekend in his holding midfield role.
Hibs, meanwhile, have bolstered their squad this week after left-back Lewis Stevenson was sent off against Queen of the South last weekend.
The signing of former Welsh i nternational fullback Neil Eardley shows Neil Lennon’s men are intent in their quest to get out of the Championship at the third time of asking.
Eardley, who had most recently been at Birmingham City i n the English Championship, has just returned from a cruciate knee injury.
He scored in Tuesday’s Development squad game against Rangers, which was abandoned at half-time.
There is expected to be another bumper crowd at Easter Road on Sunday for the noon kick-off, which will be televised live on Sky Sports.
United fans have already snapped up more than 600 tickets and this is expected to rise over the coming days.
