Shaughnessy a Saints mainstay

-

ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright pulled off a great stroke of business when he managed to persuade Joe Shaughnessy to sign in the summer of last year.

The defender has been an absolute rock in the Saints’ rearguard, performing equally as well at right-back as at centre-half.

“Joe has been consistently good, a mainstay of our team,” To m m y said as he completed preparations for tomorrow’s away trip to face Ross County.

“He has been an almost ever present and long may that continue.

“He has good football skills and has the physical presence a defender needs.

“He really is a very good all-round defender and I am delighted he has done so well for us. I know he will continue to do so.”

Joe is in Saints’ squad for the Ross County game and should be in his centraldefensive role along with captain Steven Anderson.

K e i t h W a t s o n , Ta m Scobbie and Ally Gilchrist are still out i njured but Richard Foster and Chris Millar have a chance of being in the squad.

Foster suffered a thigh knock early on against Hamilton at New Douglas Park last Sunday and Millar has been hampered by injury at times so far this season.

Tommy reports that the midfield man has done a week’s training so he looks like being back in the squad.

Steven MacLean, unable to play on Hamilton’s artificial surface, also returns.
