Resurfacing work means disruption for motorists

- By JON bRADy

MOTORISTS in Lochee are set to face further disruption as roadworks begin on residential roads behind the High Street.

Resurfacing work on the roadway and pavements in Tofthill Place and Bright Street will begin on Monday October 17 and will continue for four weeks.

The two roads connect Lochee High Street with incoming traffic from Harefield Road.

The closures come just weeks after Lochee High Street was reopened after a month of repair work.

However, Paul Grossi, who runs Grossi’s Dry Cleaners on the High Street, said the streets had been in need of repair for some time and welcomed the start of the work.

He said: “I believe the work was meant to be done about six months ago so it’s running late, but I’m not surprised that these works are being carried out.

“The road needs repaired. It has been horrendous — there are holes all over the place.

“People tend to use it as a back road into the top of the High Street.

“I just hope they do the repairs as fast as they can, but I’m not going to complain.”

Isabella Burns, who lives on Tofthill Place, said: “A lot of people use this road — they’ll just have to take the long way around.

“It’s difficult if you are an older person but it’s about time it was done. The road needs to be sorted.

“The pavements on Bright Street aren’t safe for elderly people either.”

Another resident said: “It’s been a nightmare because the High Street was shut off as well.

“I usually cut on to the main road so it doesn’t bother me.”

A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “These works are part of an ongoing roads and footways maintenance programme across the city.

“Diversions will be in operation during this time.

“Work has been split into phases, which started earlier this year, to take account of a local development.”

Other impending major roadworks include three separate Monday to Friday closures on King’s Cross Road to northbound traffic stretching from Lundie Avenue to the Clepington Roundabout.

The closure means drivers heading for the Kingsway will need to find an alternative route.
