-

A NEW series of Royal Scottish Geographical Society talks begins with the visit to Dundee of Mark Stephen, long-time voice of Radio Scotland’s Out of Doors programme.

Interviewing exper ts about a vast array of Scottish topics has given the Aberdonian a rare perspective on the nation’s land and geography.

He will draw inspiration from those experiences to take his audience on a tour of Scotland’s greatest scenery and outdoor experiences.

Mark said: “As first producer, then presenter of Radio Scotland’s Out of Doors, I’ve spent 20 years travelling the length and breadth of Scotland, 52 weeks of the year, hail, rain or shine.

“On the way, I have been lucky enough to hear the views of hundreds of contributors, many of them experts in their field and to see the country through their eyes.”

Future speakers will include underwater explorer Andy Torbet, who will recount how his dive team plunged i nto the depths of the Aegean Sea to film the Britannic — the Titanic’s bigger and more luxurious sister ship — which met its end while operating as a hospital ship in 1916.

Adventurer Mark Evans, meanwhile, will recount his 49-day crossing of the largest sand desert in the world, the Empty Quarter, taking him and his team from Oman to Qatar.

Mark Stephen’s talk takes place tomorrow in D u n d e e U n i v e r s i t y ’s Dalhousie Building.
