Broughty delight after Winter blast

- BY JUNICUS

BROUGHTY Athletic moved into second place in the Super League with a 1-0 win over Penicuik at Whitton Park.

Chances were at a premium at either end in a tight first half and it was no surprise it ended goalless.

The second half was far more open and the deadlock was finally broken i n 52 minutes when a corner found its way to Jamie Winter on the edge of the box and he lashed a shot into the bottom corner of the Penicuik net.

The Fed had keeper Iain Ross to thank for a couple of great saves as the visitors pressed for an equaliser but they held out for another impressive win.

Carnoustie are still bottom of the Super League but picked up a vital point with an injury-time equaliser in their bottom-ofthe-table clash with Fauldhouse.

It looked like the Gowfers would be heading home pointless when they were a goal behind then had Sam Simpson sent off. However, they dug deep and grabbed a dramatic equaliser six minutes into injury time.

After a goalless first half, Fauldhouse took the lead within a minute of the restart but the Gowfers hit back on the hour mark with an own-goal equaliser.

The hosts regained the lead i n 71 minutes and it looked ominous for Alan McSkimming’s side when they were reduced to 10 men.

But Euan Buggins saved the day with a late equaliser and the home side were also reduced to 10 men in the final minute of the match.

It was a bad day at the office for Lochee United, who suffered a 2-1 defeat at Camelon despite getting off to the perfect start when Bryan Deasley gave them the lead after only six minutes.

The Mariners hit back through Stuart Bell in 14 minutes and the Bluebells were hit with another body blow four minutes into the second half when Jason Walton scored what proved to be Camelon’s winner. Jeanfield lost 4-2 at Dundonald. The Perth men were four down before goals from Lewis Baker and Lee Deans reduced the leeway.
