Fairmuir aiming for a bit of double Dutch deja vu

- BY GEORGE CRAN

FAIRMUIR U/15s are hoping this season will have a bit of double Dutch deja vu thrown in as they aim for silverware.

It’s early on in the season, of course, and nobody around the team are getting ahead of themselves. However, plans are being laid to send the team to Holland in the new year for an international tournament.

Fairmuir manager Graham Buchan said: “We’re planning on going back to Holland — we went there two years ago and came back to win the treble.

“There were teams from all over — Germany, Belgium and I think there was even one from Brazil. It was a really good experience for the players.

“We hope it can have the same effect but we’re not thinking that far ahead at the moment — it’s a game at a time just now.

“We’re quite optimistic of a good season but we’ve already lost a game against Dryburgh.

“I firmly believe we’re a better side than them but they were better on the day.

“We have a bright future here and we’re aiming to fight for silverware.”

That search for trophies continued last weekend in the U/15 G Taylor League against Forfar where a Nairn Bonnar hat-trick helped Fairmuir overcome a stubborn side to eventually win 7-0.

Also on target were Ryan Smith, the impressive Ethan Samson, Jamie Timmons and Jake Grady.

And their gaffer was pleased with the second half showing from his side.

He added: “Forfar kept their shape well and made it hard to break them down.

“We should have been more than just a goal ahead at half-time but credit to Forfar for defending well.

“We changed some personnel and the shape in the second half and we managed to keep the ball better and picked up a good win.”

Victories like this one will cement Graham’s belief in his side and he says their hard work will take them as far as they want.

He said: “We have a brilliant group of lads.

“They train twice a week and give everything.

“Some of them train Pro Youth as well, so it’s credit to them for their hard work.”
