Ralph takes charge for Scottish Cup tie

- BY JUNICUS

THE second round of the Scottish Cup dominates the junior card tomorrow.

One of the most intriguing ties is the local derby at Glenesk between managerless Violet and Blairgowrie.

The Pansies have had a troubled season, culminating in the resignation of manager Scott Lindsay following a heavy defeat at Haddington last week.

Ralph Henderson will take over as interim manager until a new leader is appointed. He faces a tough baptism against the North League leaders, even though the Berrypickers’ unbeaten run was ended by Broughty Athletic in the GA Cup last Saturday.

Henderson’s first task will be to try and raise their confidence for the tie but he will be without Barry Wilson and Aaron Kane.

Blair are without Gordon Pirie and Sean Kelly.

Lochee Harp await a visit from Maryhill and, after scoring 12 goals in their last two outings, the Beechwood side are looking forward to the tie.

The Glasgow outfit have struggled for consistency this season and have won only one of their five league matches but will still provide a stern test for Michael Gormley’s side.

Gormley will be without Sam McDonald, Joe Colquhoun and James Cochrane, while Cammy McMahon is cup-tied.

Downfield have the advantage of a home tie against Nairn St Ninian’s. While they will take nothing for granted, the Spiders should fancy their chances against the North Division One outfit.

Boss Paul Marr is in the happy position of having a full pool to choose from.

North End will be hoping they can see off Wishaw at North End Park.

Although they lost to Downfield in their last outing, the Dokens were rattling in goals for fun in their previous six matches and, with home advantage, Andy Heggie’s team should feel confident.

Martin Strachan, Ross Lunan and Gavin Burns will miss the tie. Jeanfield entertain St Andrews. Swifts had an excellent home win over Hill of Beath last week and expect to be on the same lines.
