Man ‘severely hurt in attack on street’

A DUNDEE man suffered “severe injury” in an alleged attack on a street in Aberdeen.

Ben Payne, 22, understood to be from the city’s Douglas area, was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday, it has been claimed.

A teenager appeared in court on Monday charged with assaulting Mr Payne to his severe injury.

Rhian Lee William Doran, 18, is also accused of having a blade in a public place.

Doran, who is from Aberdeen, appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in relation to the matter, which is said to have happened in Esslemont Avenue, not far from the city centre, at about 4.30am.

Doran faces two charges of assault to severe injury.

He is also alleged to have had a blade in a public place and is further accused of resisting police.

The case against him was continued for further examinatio­n and Doran was remanded in custody.

No date has been set for his next appearance in court.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed that three ambulances had been sent to Esslemont Avenue at about 4.30am on Sunday following a 999 call.

He added that two males had been taken by paramedics to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A spokeswoma­n for Police Scotland said that officers had been called to Esslemont Avenue around the same time.

She added that an 18-year-old had appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with the matter.

Esslemont Avenue is a 10-minute walk from Aberdeen’s busy Union Street shopping thoroughfa­re.

A 20-YEAR-OLD woman attacked another woman in a Dundee nightclub.

Reece Evans, of Teviotdale Avenue, had sentence deferred at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Evans admitted assaulting Kate Gardner by striking her on the head, seizing her by the hair and pulling her to the ground, all to her injury, at Liquid nightclub, South Ward Road, on January 17.

Sentence was deferred until November 29 for reports and assessment­s.
