Abbie’s terror after car ‘forced’ towards barrier

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

A STUDENT has spoken of the “terrifying” moment she claims a van forced her car into the central reservation of the Kingsway.

Abbie Robertson, 17, was driving along the carriageway heading west towards Invergowrie when a white van came off the slip road at the city’s King’s Cross Road.

The teenager — who only passed her test in August — moved into the right hand lane to allow the vehicle to gain access.

But she was left “terrified” after the van collided with her Volkswagen Polo pushing her onto the central reservation.

Today, police said the other driver involved in the crash has now come forward.

Former Harris student Abbie said: “I was terrified — he’d joined the left lane and he began moving into the right lane without signalling.

“There was a bang — I started pressing the horn to alert the driver but I was a fraction away from colliding with the barrier.

“My biggest concern was that my front wheel might clip the reserve and I would flip over — the driver didn’t seem to realise what had happened.”

The Dundee and Angus College student said that the experience had left her shaken and upset.

She said: “I went off at the next slip road heading towards the ice rink just to calm down.

“As soon as I got back to my family’s hairdressing business in Invergowrie I broke down in tears.”

Police are currently carrying out investigations into the incident.

Although there was only cosmetic damage to the vehicle, Abbie’s father, Fraser Robertson, 51, said his daughter was extremely shaken by what happened. He said: “There isn’t too much damage but the passenger door was forced shut as a result of the impact of the van pushing against it. “The damage of the car is going to cost around £400 to repair. “The whole thing could have been a lot worse.” Abbie said: “The event has made me more hesitant when I’m at junctions. I feel like I’ve been seeing white vans all day today.” Police said that officers are aware of the matter and are looking into it. Sergeant Gair Forbes of Police Scotland said today: “Both parties have now reported the incident to the police.” Abbie
