Therapist sent kid sexual messages

- BY BRYAN COPLAND

A HYPNOTHERAPIST from Dundee, who once claimed he could save the NHS millions of pounds by curing people’s ailments, has been placed on the sex offenders register after he sent sexual messages to a child.

Roderick Beaumont, 60, ran his own life-coaching company and told the Tele last year how he believed he could cut health board bills by £15 million through his work.

But the Lochee man faced criminal proceedings after sending a child written messages of a sexual nature.

Beaumont, of Methven Walk, appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court where he admitted sending the messages from a property in Airdrie, on a number of occasions between December 30 last year and January 24.

He was told by Sheriff Petra Collins that it was a “very serious case”.

She called for background reports on Beaumont before passing sentence and he will appear in court again on December 5.

He will also be put through a risk assessment to check the danger he poses to children.

Sheriff Collins placed Beaumont on the sex offenders register meantime.

Beaumont is now reportedly claiming benefits and no longer working.

Last April, Beaumont — who was a member of the Scottish Hypnotherapy Foundation (SHF) — told the Tele during an interview that he had helped to cure everything, from a woman’s fear of the wind, to long-term illnesses through his work.

He said there had been a “recent upsurge” in the number of locals seeking his help for a variety of conditions.

He added: “About 80% of people in the city are coming to seek help to quit smoking. About 95% of those people are successful.

“Ten per cent come to lose weight and the final 10% is a mixture of phobias and other things.

“Dundee in particular has a lot of people looking for help in gaining self-confidence and overcoming depression in a way that actually works.”

One coaching website tells how Beaumont has expertise in “youth impact coaching” for people aged 12 and over, as well as doing work on parent, youth and relationship coaching.
