Further changes to local bus services

Stagecoach, t he second-biggest operator in Dundee after Xplore, introduced timetable changes for buses in Dundee, Angus and north-east Fife in August.

But the firm has now confirmed it’s changed some services again.

The move is designed to “improve reliability and address community feedback regarding the changes made in August”, the company said in a statement.

The Tele told in September how Tay Bridgehead councillor Tim Brett had been inundated with complaints from residents using services between Gauldry and Arbroath, saying: “It’s been awful since the service was introduced in mid-August.”

Stagecoach had brought in 39 and 39A services to replace the 39, 77 and 77B.

But now, the former 77/77B serving Wormit and Gauldry to and from Dundee city centre has been reinstated.

The change means that the 39 operates between Arbroath and Dundee only, with the 77/77B connecting residents in Fife.

The route used by the 39 has been revised to f ollow the same route used prior to the August change, with journeys serving the bus station and High Street.

As part of the change, the 39A route is no longer being used and there have been some timetable changes made.

The service 77 route now operates between Gauldry, Wormit and Dundee bus station, with the 77B route serving Wormit, Newport (Norwood), Crichton Street in Dundee and the city’s bus station.

Some j ourneys are also serving Balmerino road end.

Among the complaints about August’s changes were that passengers had missed appointments at Ninewells Hospital, or had been made late for work as a result of the alterations.

However, Stagecoach says these changes mean that passengers can use Seagate and Whitehall Street in Dundee as interchange points for onward travel to the hospital, using the services 16, 73 and X53.
