A bad day at office for Lochee and Fed
IT was a day to forget for Lochee United and Broughty Athletic in the Super League.
At Thomson Park, Lochee gifted opponents Kelty a goal after five minutes and never looked like ending the Fifers’ unbeaten run.
With five minutes on the clock, home keeper Mark Fotheringham’s attempted clearance at the edge of the box hit Graham Hay and bounced to Scott Dalziel, who accepted the gift with an easy tap-in.
Then, in 22 minutes, Dalziel waltzed through the Bluebells defence and finished with an angled drive into the net.
And it went from bad to worse for George Shields’ side three minutes from the break when Fotheringham was sent off and, from the resultant free-kick, Stephen Husband made it three with the aid of a wicked deflection.
The Fifers were also in control of the second half and scored a fourth i n 54 minutes thanks to a terrific 25-yard strike from Craig Thomson. Jordan Moore completed a comprehensive victory with a fifth in 84 minutes.
Broughty slumped to their third successive league defeat at Bo’ness.
They trailed to Fraser Keast’s goal for the BU’s at half-time but came close in the second half when a Grant Lawson effort hit the bar.
However, the hosts were more clinical in front of goal and another good finish from Keast and a l ate strike from Roddy MacLennan gave them the points.
North End were given a stiff examination by Edinburgh United in the East of Scotland Cup but, in the end, the Dokens prevailed and Dayle Robertson’s goal in the second half proved to be the winner.
In the same competition, Blairgowrie beat Luncarty 5-1 in a game which saw the visitors finish with eight men following red cards for Bally Whytock, Paddy Deane and Steve McAllister.
Whytock put the Bleachers in front but the Berrypickers hit back and then took full advantage of their numerical superiority.
Blair’s scorers were Alan Cruickshank (2), Mark Brash, Gary Axworthy and Darren Neave.
