Kids dig for victory at Time Capsule
DUNDEE Stars U/14s consolidated their place at the top of the league table with a 16-1 win against Lanarkshire Lightning in Coatbridge.
The early Sunday morning face-off at the Time Capsule saw the much-improved hosts’ winning streak come to an abrupt end at the hands of the unbeaten visitors.
Scorers were Stephen Scott (4), Rio Page (2+4), Ben Brown (5+1), Jonny McBean (3+5), Luca De Simone (1+1) and Owen Kinmond (1).
There were some impressive assists on the goals from Sam Knight (2), Gary Kelly, Josh Hamilton, Jamie Edmonds (3+MOTM award) and Rafi Reicher-Saleem.
Manager Andrea Brown said: “Looking at the results this season so far, it was clear that Lanarkshire, now in their third season, have been developing their team and we couldn’t go into this game complacently. Although our opponents are undoubtedly stronger and have better skating ability than last season, they did struggle to keep up with the pace, as our boys maintained a strong momentum throughout.”
Elsewhere, Stars U/12s ran out 20-4 against visitors Solway.
Gary Kelly put on a MOTM display to score seven goals, with the others coming from Jack Hutton (5), Jack black (3), Darren Donaldson (2), Lewis neave (2) and CJ Ward.
“The guys were passing well, we were just the stronger team,” said manager Paul Neave.
Dundee Stars U/16s picked up two points from four.
Drew Rumgay scored Stars’ equaliser in a 1-1 draw in Aberdeen, with Dale Shearer earning MOTM.
At home, the young hosts again had to come from behind to settle for a share of the points as they were held to a 3-3 draw at the DIA.
Shearer picked up his second MOTM award, with Luca De Simone, Jack Terroni and Jonny McBean grabbing the allimportant counters for the Stars.
