Utd confident they can see out any game

DUNDEE United midfielder Charlie Telfer insists Saturday’s trip to Ayr is just as important as the win over HibsandsaystheTangerines are confident they can see out any game.

United are now level on points with leaders Hibs after the 1-0 win at Tannadice on Friday night, trailing the Edinburgh side only on goal difference with six goals separating the sides.

That’s extended their unbeaten run in the league to nine matches and, for Telfer, the ability to hold onto leads is a big part of that run — and keeping it going.

He said: “I just feel so confident we are going to see out games.

“Last year we were in winning positions so often and didn’t win the game, I just feel now we have such a good understanding.

“Every player, even players coming off the bench or coming back from injury or suspension you just know they’re coming back in and are going to do a job for us.”

And Charlie is all too aware of how difficult this division can be after half-a-season at Livingston last year which ended in relegation.

The Tangerines face four away fixtures in their next five games, starting this weekend at Somerset Park and, for the players, the game is just as big as the Hibs one.

“This Saturday at Ayr is as important as the game on Friday night — there’s no point in beating Hibs and then going down to Ayr and not getting a result,” said Telfer.

“We’re as focused on that as we were for the Hibs game — it was a massive game, on TV, in front of a big crowd but Ayr is just as important for us.”

Looking back at the victory over the Hibees, Telfer revealed the gameplan set out by manager Ray McKinnon made the difference in the end.

He said: “On Friday, the manager had a gameplan for us and he knew what we needed to do to win that game and we did it — that’s how we won.

“We knew it was going to be a tough
