Saints boosted for Dons match

-

ST JOHNSTONE head for Pittodrie on Saturday buoyed by their 3-0 home win over Inverness Caley Thistle.

Apart from t heir l ate League Cup loss against Aberdeen earlier i n the season, the Perth men have done well against the Dons in the Granite City.

“We’ve made it difficult for them and there is a lot of respect between the clubs,” said Saints’ boss Tommy Wright.

“We want to build on our win against Caley Thistle and start putting a winning run together.

“It was good to get that success over Inverness at McDiarmid after home losses to Kilmarnock, Partick and Ross County.

“We played well, too, against Inverness and that was also very pleasing.

“We have a tough run coming up with Motherwell at home, Kilmarnock away, Rangers at home and Dundee away before the year’s end and want to end 2016 on a high.”

David Wotherspoon took a knock i n the win over Caley Thistle but will be OK to face Aberdeen but Paul Paton is an injury doubt.

Keith Watson is making progress from his injury but the Aberdeen game will come too soon for him. He has been troubled by knocks since arriving at Saints in the summer but is working his way back to first team contention.

Meanwhile, Tommy i s happy with the form of the players he has out on loan.

Goalkeeper Mark Hurst and central defender Jason Kerr are at East Fife , forward Greg Hurst is with Berwick Rangers, midfielder Eoghan McCawl is at Forfar Athletic and winger Craig Thomson is with Stranraer.

“They are doing OK and there may be a couple more going out on loan during the January transfer window,”Tommy added.
