Toshney hands Utd boss options
DUNDEE United manager Ray McKinnon believes the return of defender Lewis Toshney will give him options i n the weeks to come.
“With Frank Van der Struijk being another couple of weeks away, it’s good we have Tosher able to go in there,” said Ray.
“When we get Frank back, we can move Tosher into midfield if need be.
“I think we’re OK at the moment with the squad.”
Toshney, whose only start in the last two months had been in the Irn-Bru Cup against Dunfermline, slotted i n at right-back on Friday night against Hibs due to the Dutch defender being injured.
His manager knows only too well the value of the Dundonian to the team and was impressed by his performance against Hibs.
“It was only his second start in nine weeks and I thought he did great i n terms of his fitness.”
Ray also expressed his pleasure at watching some of his fringe players get a run-out in a bounce game yesterday.
The team hasn’t shown many changes in recent weeks such has been the good form of the players holding the jerseys but that hasn’t stopped the others working hard to remain in the manager’s thoughts.
“This is the sharpest I have seen them in training since I arrived here.
“We did a full training session, then players like Cammy Smith, Sean Dillon, Coll Donaldson and Stewart Murdoch all played in a 60-minute practice match.
“They needed a run and Cammy looked really good as did Murdo.”
The United squad is getting close to full strength and with competition in every position the players are sure to be on their toes to stay in the team which can only be good news for the festive schedule.
